The City's Lead Program continues to significantly reduce lead hazards in the City's housing stock. With an estimated 60% of the housing units built prior to 1940, lead is certainly an issue in this upstate city. Targeting these urban revitalization areas has been successful largely through partnerships with Community-based Organizations (CBO's). Creating lead-safe housing, decreasing the number of children with elevated blood lead levels, general overall environmental improvements and a continual education process for families living within the City of Syracuse are all goals for our small but determined staff.

All qualified in-program units will receive a pre-inspection/risk assessment, testing, treatment and analysis. Through the Lead Program all units, upon completion, will receive clearance under the strict supervision of the program's staff. All work is performed by an EPA-licensed abatement contractor and is closely monitored until the job is completed.

The City of Syracuse Lead Hazard Control Program continues to strive to create healthy and lead-safe housing while facing the daily challenges of an ever-changing social-economic population who is in dire need of our assistance. Smiling and healthy children have been this program's goals and also its rewards.
